My name is Nicky Hemingson, and I am the proud owner and operator of Nicky Rae Photography, a dream come true that was a long time in the making. Thanks for visiting my site, I hope you enjoy looking through my galleries.
I am happily married and have two gorgeous and amazing children, Kenedy who is and old soul in a young girls body and Pacen who is a fearless cowboy who loves to make people smile . I live with my Family near LaGlace, Alberta about 40 kms Grande Prairie. We are very fortunate to have a beautiful location that is absolutely peaceful and a perfect setting for photos. My husband and I are avid Horse people, and are kids are looking to be that way too. I enjoy almost every aspect of the horse industry in some way or another. I also play a little with my Mini-Aussie and my Heeler cross in Canine Agility and Stock Dog Work.
I started my photography journey around the age of 12, when I was lucky enough to have access to a great Canon Camera (which I still have today :) When I got older, I often photographed when my husband and I would go help at local grazing lease's or at the feedlot where he worked. I loved to capture horses, cowboys and cowgirls doing what they do best- working.
Anyway to make a long story short, I always found myself gravitating back to one of two things.....photography, or horses. So I thought how lucky could I be and photograph horses for a living.....well, here I am.
I am also proud to say that my photos have been seen in such publications as The Western Horse Review and Horses All, and I am also a recipient of Merit Points from PCA International, Inc. where I have been awarded a Certificate of Completion for successfully completing all required coursework and training for PCA Portrait Photography. I have attended various lighting and photography courses, and continue to expand my education so that I can provide my clients with the most up to date techniques and equipment.
I am a true Equine Enthusiast and my equine photography skills have been developed with a love and passion for the horse. I strive to produce amazing images and truly believe that great equine photography should capture the beauty and spirit of horses, as well as the unique bond that can be built between horse and rider. My experience comes from a life long love of horse and years of working with them as a horsewoman. I feel there is more to equine photography than producing an appealing image, its about having an understanding of the relationship between horse and rider. With a photo studio built into the loft my fully functional horse barn, its safe to say I live the "western" way of life and love to document it through my unique photography style. Whether it is a newborn baby posed on dad's saddle in the studio, a newborn colt taking it's first steps, capturing the action at a branding or rodeo or an equine portrait session, I thrive on capturing the moments that mean so much, for people who live a lifestyle so close to my heart.
Looking forward to documenting a part of your journey
